High There, Quinn!

Welcome back to High There, Bud! This week we are featuring Quinn, who is usually the voice of this Instagram and a P&L co-founder! Prairie and Luna wouldn’t be what it is today without Quinn and her creativity. Her eye for design is the reason the store is as beautiful as it is, she also manages our socials and promotions and is constantly researching new cannabis products to ensure we are bringing in the best-curated selection of weed. She leads our team as the HR manager, balancing the roles and responsibilities of so many talented folks! She also specializes in topicals, if you have questions about CBD lube or vaginal suppositories, Quinn is your guy!

Quinn is also very conscious of making sure we are being as socially responsible as we can as an organization. She leads with her heart in making donation decisions, but also thoroughly vets each cause to ensure they are truly doing good things. I can go on and on, I am just so dang thankful to have Quinn as my work wife and best friend. But without further ado, here’s what Quinn had to say about herself and her cannabis journey.

1. Share a bit about your cannabis journey.

My cannabis journey began in my early teens, after years of watching my older brother stoned out of his mind, thinking “I’ll never smoke pot!” Obviously, that didn’t last and I started smoking weed whenever I could get my hands on it, coughing my lungs out and laughing and munching mad munchies with my best friends. (Now as a mom… hmm.) I definitely had some shame around my cannabis use - it was almost like it was okay if it was just at parties, but as soon as it was part of your daily life, it became lowkey dirtbag behaviour. Y’all felt that stigma, pre-legalization, right? Or was that just me? Lol.

I also kind of took for granted how readily available weed was in Vancouver (always date a drug dealer in high school, folks) and how much of an “okay you guys, ash it out” approach the VPD took to it, as a white teen with no criminal record. When I went away for university, I didn’t have a reliable hookup and I was way more nervous about getting caught as a legal adult and ruining my life. Plus, alcohol was the drug of choice for all of my peers and roommates. Something about a new city and new people made my paranoia skyrocket and weed became a lot less fun for a little while. But, I always made my way back to it, with other buds who loved to blaze, or alone. In hindsight, it took me a long time to recognize that my cannabis use, like many chronics (do we still say that??? lolllll) was both recreational and therapeutic/medicinal. Understanding it that way has allowed me to be more conscious about my use, using it as another tool in the ol’ anti-depression toolkit, rather than seeing it just as a “guilty pleasure.” Because there is no shame in this game!!! There are a lot of reasons I love weed, and they’re mostly still the same as they were when I was 15 - I like to laugh, I like to eat, and I love the effect on my mental health.

2. What is your role at P&L and what is one thing you love to chat about with customers?

I am co-founder of P&L and my role is honestly quite a few small hats, constantly rotating!!!! I budtend, design our shop and promotions, manage staff and operations with my work wife and the incredible management team we’ve gathered, research and order so much friggin weed (unfuckingreal), etc etc etc forever and ever (knock wood).

I really love to talk to customers about CBD in general, but especially infused topicals, bath products, and personal/sexual lubricants. Those are some of my most treasured customer chats. Some people just really invite us into their experience in such an intimate way when they’re looking for these kinds of products and it feels like an honour every time. I don’t take it lightly that so many people feel comfortable enough in our space to have these kinds of conversations. It’s everything I wanted Prairie and Luna to be.

3. What’s your preferred way to consume cannabis? What’s your current go-to product and why.

I smoke my ceramic bong every night, after my son goes to bed. It’s this one. My tolerance was super low after my pregnancy and I’m still breastfeeding so I’ve been kind of trying to maintain my tolerance by smoking lower-THC weed. Before my pregnancy, I’d gotten to the point where I felt like I couldn’t get where I wanted to be with my high, and I was really limited to super-high THC weed. I love being able to explore our whole menu now, without being tied to the over-25% stuff. Right now, I’m really enjoying the CBD Runtz pre-rolls by Orchid for a buzzy buzz that helps me wake up and enjoy my evening housework. The come-down isn’t too harsh (I love that about CBD-heavy strains) so I roll into bedtime relaxed but not burnt out. I also absolutely loooooved Pistol and Paris’ Orange Tingz in the bong. Like a spicy creamsicle! I like supporting small grows with my dollars, so I usually smoke craft flower. I just find a little goes a longer way and I feel better about my impact on the legal cannabis industry when I put my lungs where my heart is.

4. What’s your favourite song right now?

This is so cheesy but this one, because I sing it with my baby every night :)

5. What’s your favourite hobby/activity?

Oh no, this one is tricky!! Being a business owner and mom to a toddler has honestly killed off a lot of the hobbies I used to have time for. Ummmm I watch a lot of Bluey and bird documentaries with my 18-month old, occasionally sit in my car drinking a Starbucks and listening to a podcast to get a moment to myself, and… smoke a lot of weed. Do any of those count?? This is really making me reassess my life.

6. And of course, a little tribute to all the P&L furbabies!

This is my cat, Snoudge. This sweet man has roadtripped coast to coast with me and now he puts up with the baby like a pure gentleman. He’s a strange and hilarious guy who is more demanding than any cat I’ve ever met. Also he’s toilet trained (like literally, he goes on the toilet. If you have a cat, google “litter kwitter” it will change your life.)
