Kief + SHRED = a match made in heaven

The infamous pre-milled flower has taken the country by storm with its popularity. Coming in more and more single-strain and blended options, we can't seem to bring these guys in fast enough! Conveniently pre-ground, for the busiest of bees - just scoop and smoke.

But… we can’t help but notice a missed opportunity for all our pre-milled lovin’ folks. As convenient and price effective as pre-milled flower is, you are inevitably missing out on some of those beautiful trichomes that are lost when bud is machine-trimmed and milled down. Plus, when you’re buying pre-mill, you’re losing that treasure trove accumulating in the third chamber of your grinder!

Trichomes, to the naked eye, are the beautiful crystals dusting your bud, giving it its powdered, sticky profile. Trichomes are the production site for hundreds of cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes, which give a strain its unique effects. When you accumulate a decent quantity of trichomes, that becomes known as kief.  The potency held in this magic powder is very concentrated and people typically store the trichomes that fall off their bud during its trip through a grinder, saving it up for special occasions. But, with the popularity of SHRED and other pre-milled options, those grinders are sitting empty!

That’s where kief comes in.

What is kief?

Available in 1g jars (remember this is quite a concentrated form of cannabinoid consumption, so a little goes a long way) in strain-specific choices as the perfect add-on to your bowls or joints for an enhanced potency kick. Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could press your kief to produce hash! Easily done by pressing your kief into bricks or rolling it into balls. When pressing your kief you’ll notice it starts to take on a darker shade, and the more you continue to apply pressure, the darker the hash will become. Rosin can also be made with kief, with the addition of heated plates while pressing. Or, if you plan on making some cannabutter anytime soon, try sprinkling a little extra kief in there for an added boost of potency, mixing it in with your flower as you decarboxylate it for the best results.

Whether you’re planning to explore the world of making your own concentrates, are looking to add a little kick to a lower-THC bud, or want to replace some lost trichomes in your pre-mill, a little jar of kief might just do the trick.
