4 Years of Legalization (and a call to action!)

The government of Canada is currently conducting a review on cannabis legalization and is calling on the public for their unique perspectives. An online questionnaire is currently available for all to fill out, closing November 21, 2022. We strongly encourage all of our customers who have any concerns or recommendations for reform within the Cannabis Act to use this opportunity to have their voices heard. 

With such a green industry changing before our eyes, it’s possible for myself and fellow cannabis enthusiasts to maintain hope for the future of cannabis in Canada. Hope for things like increased equity across the industry and the ability for retail stores to purchase directly from farms in their areas. For less packaging and measures that disrupt the ability for massive publicly traded companies to stamp out small-scale competition. We hope that this review could mean the day we’ll be able to welcome our customer’s babies with open arms as they accompany their parents while shopping, like in any other regulated store (looking at you, LCBO.) Hope that the industry leaders will review their misguided rules regarding infused cannabis drinks & topicals, so that our customers can purchase more than 5-drinks at a time, or one bath bomb! Our dreams are high (no pun intended, okay maybe a little) and you better believe we’ll still be here slinging the best bud in town when they finally become reality! 

The questionnaire contains questions related to minimizing harms to protect Canadians, education and awareness to support informed choices, progress towards establishing a responsible supply chain, protecting public safety, access to cannabis for medical purposes, and the perceived impact on other government priorities (for example, strengthening economic growth, inclusiveness, and fighting climate change).

No matter what your priorities are when it comes to cannabis and its legalization, it is worth taking the time to advocate for those changes directly to a body that can and will be doing something about it.
