Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you only sell ceramic smokeware?
A few reasons:
- You can already get glass pipes and bongs everywhere! We wanted to offer something different.
- The smoking experience. Take your first toke off a ceramic pipe or bong and you’ll see what we mean. The ceramic doesn’t conduct heat as readily as glass or metal so you get a more even burn and a cooler hit.
- It’s gorgeous! We love that we get the opportunity to support so many ceramic artists through this little shop. The ceramic medium allows these artists to make such unique pieces and every single one is a tiny hand-held piece of sculptural art. We love that.
How do you clean ceramic pipes and bongs?
There are a few methods you can try. Our favourite is the simplest: rubbing alcohol and salt. Pour some alcohol and salt into your piece, cover the holes with your fingers and shake to get all that resin loosened up. Then rinse, rinse, rinse and allow to air dry. The taste and smell of the alcohol will evaporate once it dries.
Another option is to boil your piece clean. We suggest folding a dish towel into the bottom of your pot, placing your pipe into the little nest it creates, then filling with water and bringing to a boil. Give it 15 minutes at a boil, then use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to poke through any resin that hasn’t floated out on its own.
We also sell an all-natural pipe cleaning solution, which we love. It’s like a hippie version of your classic Orange Crush cleaner. You dilute the solution with water, leave your pipe to soak, then poke around with a pipe cleaner to get all the loosened resin out. Easy peasy.
Where do you ship?
We currently ship only within Canada. If you’re an international shopper and that is terrible news for you, send us an email! It totally helps us to know where we should think about expanding shipping to. We get nervous about sending things through customs and about prohibitive shipping costs, but we can definitely imagine a day when we’ll be able to make the jump to international shipping.
What’s the difference between a pipe, a one-hitter, and a bong? Which one would be best for me?
The difference lies mostly in the size of the toke. With a one-hitter, the narrow chamber and itty-bitty bowl mean you get a little tiny toke with a nice controlled inhale speed. We love a one-hitter for friends just getting into (or back into) weed, as well as for an on-the-go toke. Personally, it’s my Walmart parking lot go-to. Super subtle design, easy to pack while you’re out and about, and you’re really going to have to work hard to over-serve yourself.
Pipes come in lots of different sizes and styles, but you can typically expect a mid-size bowl and a bit of a juicier interior chamber. Some pipes have a choke on the side, which you use to control air flow, and some don’t. For example, the Prairie Pipe doesn’t have a choke, while the Matte Minted Geopipe does. Perfecting your choke technique requires a little practice, but it’ll become second nature. Each pipe will toke a little differently, but you’ll learn exactly how hard to inhale and when to take your finger off the choke as you get familiar with your new piece.
Bongs and standing pipes typically have a larger bowl and an even bigger interior chamber, meaning bigger and denser hits. Some bongs have a bubbling function, where your toke is drawn through cool water before you inhale it. Our Honeybear Bubblers are one example. The Bob Marley Standing Pipe is a waterless bong, or standing pipe. It offers a bong-sized toke, but without the bubbling. The cool thing about ceramic bongs is that they can be glazed on the interior. That means that even ones that don’t use water give you a beautiful, cool toke because the smoke is cooled as it is drawn along the glaze.
How do you use a dry herb vape?
If you’re used to smoking joints or pipes, you’re already 90% of your way there. Dry herb vapes use ground-up bud, just like you’d use to pack a regular bowl. Our dry herb vapes use a ceramic chamber, which heat your bud up to the point where it releases its cannabinoids as a vapour. By heating instead of burning, you get all of those nice cannabinoids without setting them on fire before they can be inhaled.
Dry herb vapes are rechargeable and typically have multiple heat settings, so you can cook the same chamber of weed at a few temperatures to get the most out of it. What people tend to like most about dry herb vaping is the lack of throat and lung burn. You’ll be shocked the first time you use one to feel the difference between lighting your cannabis on fire and heating it by convection. The vapour you inhale feels like next-to-nothing.
How do you use a concentrate vape?
Concentrate vaporizers work by heating up a cannabis concentrate (oil, wax, shatter) to produce a vapour that is inhaled. Concentrate vapour feels a bit more dense than dry herb vapour, which can cause you to cough more.
There are many different styles of concentrate vaporizers on the market today, you can see our curated selection here.
Important tips if you are new to concentrates:
- If you are not using a pre-filled cartridge and are measuring out your own, use the TINIEST chunk you guys! About a quarter to a half the size of a pencil eraser is a good place to start. You really don’t need much, most concentrates are 70-90% THC.
- Take one inhale and wait 30 minutes before taking another, because it can take some time to feel the full effects of concentrate vapour.
- You WILL green out very quickly if you take too many hits of concentrate at once
What payment methods do you accept?
We securely accept Mastercard, Visa, Amex, and Discover cards. You will be redirected to Authorize.net (our payment processor) to complete payment. We also accept Interac e-transfers to [email protected]. Please put your order number in the comments section of your transfer. We have Auto Deposit turned on, but if your bank requires you to use a password, please use “ceramic” as the password.
What packing materials do you use?
For the most part, we re-use the packing material that our product is sent to us in. Any bubble wrap and cardboard boxes you receive your order in are on their second life, which saves them from being tossed when we receive them. We also use 100% biodegradable mailers, which can be used for your compost or stuck in your green bin once you receive them! Fun!
What is your return policy?
We have a case-by-case return policy. If you receive an item that isn’t functional for some reason, please reach out to us via email ([email protected]) and we will sort you out. We might ask you for pictures of the problem piece. From there, we will decide with you if you would like us to send a replacement or refund your purchase. For hygiene reasons, we are not able to accept returns of any product that’s been used. However, if you are unhappy for any reason, we are also unhappy, so please do reach out and we will do our best to make it right.
